Excursions to Moscow

On this page you will find information about private tours for individuals with a guide and transport for the exclusive use of the customer. In addition to private tours we offer special group excursions on fixed dates between April and September that are at a special price.

 

Our guides are all English speakers and are officially licensed tour guides, with many years of experience catering to English-speaking tourists in Russia. If you need a different language, it’s also possible. We have guides speaking Italian, Spanish, German and other languages. Please send us a request and we will find a proper guide for you.

City Tour + Cathedral Interior of Christ the Savior

 

The places that have marked the history of the Russian capital will be explained by one of our professional guides, who will make stops to allow you to take photos. Along the city tour there are no internal visits.

 

After the city tour, together with the guide you will go to visit the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour - located on the banks of the Moskva River, not far from the Kremlin. It is distinct due to its huge golden dome representing the tallest Eastern Orthodox church at 104 meters high and a capacity of 10,000 people.

City Tour + Novodevichy Monastery

After the city tour, you will visit the Novodevichy Monastery with a guide. Founded in 1524 by Grand Duke Vasily III to celebrate Smolensk's reconquest against the Lithuanians, Novodevichy Monastery is one of the most beautiful sites in Moscow. The Cathedral of Our Lady of Smolensk is the oldest and most important structure of the monastery.

Kremlin and Cathedrals

Sergiev Posad - the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius

Northeast of the city of Moscow, it is the first of the ancient cities of the so-called "Golden Ring". A city rich in works of art developed around the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, one of the most revered in all of Russia and home to the Russian Orthodox Patriarch to the church. The monastery complex, surrounded by a beautiful wall with 10 towers, includes seven churches, two cathedrals, an academy of theology, the ancient hospital and its offices. The trip to Sergiev Posad allows you to admire the Russia outside of the big cities with its pastoral views, dotted with wooden dachas in the oak and birch woods.

Tretyakov Gallery (Lavrushinskji pereulok)

Visit to the Tetryakov Gallery, opened in 1881 and renovated in 1994, where you will find some more beautiful specimens of Russian painting naturally starting with the icons (including the famous Virgin of Vladimir) whose tradition came from Byzantium in Russia around the

XII - XIII.

Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts

Visit the Pushkin museum - the largest collection of European art in Russia after the Hermitage. The museum, housed in three buildings, displays many ancient artifacts, including the Treasure of Priam, but above all owes its fame to the wealth of French works with important representations of Impressionism. It is also the only museum in the world to have the complete collection of all of Picasso’s periods. The magnificent building that houses the museum is decorated with Ionic columns built on the

model of the Erechtheion on the Acropolis of Athens.

Andrey Rublev Museum of Ancient Russian Culture and Art

The museum is housed in the Andronikov Monastery, not far from the city center. Here the famous master monk Rublev, worked and was buried. It houses a very rich collection of Russian icons that allow you to follow the evolution of Russian iconographic art. No work by the master Rublev is exhibited, but there are works by his numerous students.

State History Museum

Located in the north-east part of the Red Square and holds a huge collection of artifacts ranging from the Stone Age until the end of the 19th century. Each room is decorated in the style of a different period or geographical region of Russia. Reopened in 1997, it is expanded upon each year.

Museum of Contemporary History of Russia

The museum, once called the museum of the Revolution, is located along the central Tverskaya street in a beautiful nineteenth-century building, which was once the headquarters of the English Club. The exhibition tells the story of Russia as a superpower - from the second half of the nineteenth century to present day - passing through all

eras: tsarist, soviet and modern.

Metro and Via Arbat

Tour of the famous Moscow Metro - inaugurated in 1935 - a real underground museum! Stops are scheduled in some of the most beautiful stations which, with their stucco, stained glass and mosaics, represent the pride of the Russian capital and to which the greatest Russian artists of all time collaborated. The visit will continue on above ground with a walk along the famous pedestrian street Arbat - crowded with antique shops, restaurants and outdoor cafes - where you can admire the paintings put on display by artists in search of notoriety.

VDNKH park and Cosmonautics Museum

This is one of the most loved parks by Muscovites, even during the Soviet period. The main entrance to the park is a triumphal arch topped by labor figures of a tractor driver and a farmer from a Soviet collective farm. Within an area of over 237 square meters, the pavilions, statues, fountains and monuments depict the history of the Soviet Union. The museum contains a wide variety of works and reproductions related to space that tell the story of flight and Russian space exploration, astronomy, and space technology.

Kitay Gorod and Romanov Museum

Visit the area east of Red Square, one of the oldest zones of the capital, with narrow streets and rich in historic buildings such as the Zaikonospassky Monastery, Moscow Print Yard (where the first Russian book was printed), the Monastery of the Epiphany, the ancient Stock Exchange, the Cathedral of the Conastery of Our Lady of the Sign. Visit the house museum of the Romanov boyars, an excellent example of medieval architecture, where the family lived before ascending to the throne.

Russian Orthodox Moscow: Zamoskvorechye District

The zone beyond the Moscow River is the center of Russian Orthodox Moscow with the churches of the Resurrection of Kadashi - an elegant example of Muscovite Baroque and today a restoration center for other communities - and the Virgin of Consolation of Saint Nikolaus in Pyzhi - constructed in the Imperial style with colors of white and blue and five onion-shaped domes. We will also see the Danilov Monastery - the headquarters Russian Orthodox church and the official residence of the Patriarch of Moscow - the heart of the Russian Orthodox faith.

Maksim Gorky House Museum

Located in the city center and built by the architect Schechtel for the Ryabuschinsky family, it is a perfect example of a twentieth-century Russian residence and represents a classic example of Art Nouveau architecture. The memorial collection of the famous Russian writer Maxim Gorky includes a large exhibition of period objects and houses numerous memorabilia of Gorky, creator of Soviet socialist realism literature.

City of the Stars

Visit the Museum of the Russian space program, Zvyozdny Gorodok (City of the stars), located 30 km from Moscow and, for many years, has hosted astronauts from all over the world. At the time of the USSR it was a place covered in secrecy, but today it is accessible to tourists. A special dedication is reserved to the first man who flew into space, the famous Yurij Gagarin, on board the Vostok on April 12, 1961. There are also various scale models of Russian rockets and the MIR orbiting station.

Danilov Monastery

Visit the Monastery of Saint Daniel, built in the XII century and surrounded by mighty defense walls, now located in the center of Moscow. Famous Russian figures are buried in the cemetery. It was closed by the Bolsheviks in 1927 and reopened in 1983, and currently acts as the administrative and religious center of the Russian Orthodox Church. Since 1984 it has been the residence of the Patriarch of Moscow and of all Russia.

Kolomenskoye

Visit this magnificent architectural complex located in the south-east of the city along the banks of the Moscow River. This was the summer residence of the tsars from the 16th century. Within the beautiful park stands out, among other buildings, the blue and gold domes of the Church of Our Lady of Kazan, the elegant Ascension Church - the first stone church built of tent-like variety, an old mead factory, and the home of Peter the Great.

Tsaritsino

 

This residence is located south of Moscow and was constructed for the Tsarina Catherine as a summer residence. Originally constructed by the architect Bazhenov who saw his first attempt at the residence demolished due to Catherine’s dislike. The work resumed however was further disrupted by the death of the Tsarina. The residence has a magnificent park, with 2 pavilions and nineteenth-century buildings, as well as 2 cathedrals inside which works of porcelain, glassware and clothing of the time are preserved.

Kuskovo

Visit the country residence of the Sheremetev Counts, modified in the mid-18th century and almost unchanged since. The main wooden building overlooks a lake where the count used to present “naumachia” - naval battles for entertainment - for the Muscovite socailites. There is also a park that houses, among other buildings, a theater, an Italian-style villa, a house in Dutch style, a church and an orangery with an exhibition of Russian pottery between the 18th and 20th centuries.

New Jerusalem (The Holy Land)

Constructed in the seventeenth century by Patriarch Nikon, who wanted to recreate the Holy Land of Christians in his patriarchate, the New Jerusalem Monastery is located about 60 km from Moscow on the banks of the Istra river. This Monastery, unlike others, never had military purposes even though its walls and towers resemble a fortress. In the center of the monastery stands the Church of the Holy Sepulcher - a copy of the original in Jerusalem - and behind it is the Church of the Nativity, which today houses a museum.

Peredelkino (Boris Pasternak House Museum)

Entrance to be paid on site

Visit to this countryside location, about 25 km from Moscow, where the famous writer of Doctor Zhivago and Nobel prize winner Boris Pasternak (1958) lived in “golden confinement” as the KGB controlled the area. We will visit the wooden dacha, now a museum, where the writer lived his period of exile with his family.

Yasnaya Polyana - Museum-estate of Leo Tolstoy (lunch included)

Excursion to the estate of Leo Tolstoy, where he was born on September 9th, 1828, and where the famous Russian writer spent most of his life. We will visit his birthplace, where he composed most of his writings, and the tomb where he is buried. Given the distance of the trip (500 km in a day), the excursion is particularly tiring but well worth the effort for Russian literature enthusiasts.
