After the tour of the city, we will continue with a detailed visit to the Peter and Paul Fortress. The fortress was founded by Peter the Great on a small island in the Neva River delta. In the middle of the fortress stands the imposing Peter and Paul Cathedral, the burial place of all Russian emperors and empresses - from Peter the Great to Alexander III. Its design is curiously unusual for a Russian Orthodox church and the cathedral is the tallest building in the city. Other fortress buildings include: the State Museum of Saint Petersburg History and The Saint Petersburg Mint - one of the only two places in Russia where coins and medals are minted.

Boat ride on the canals

An exciting journey through the rivers and canals of St. Petersburg, bringing you back to the late 19th century - beginning of the 20th century, when the exceptional Carl Faberge jeweler lived and worked in the city! Exploring, you will have the opportunity to admire the main monuments of the city, churches and historic buildings from a different point of view than along the streets or squares of the city. Opening of the Bridges (night boat ride)

Only from April to October

St. Petersburg, like Venice, is built on water, on 42 islands located on the Neva River delta - a true "Museum of Bridges”! There are 300 magnificent bridges in St.Petersburg, of which about twenty are movable. The night opening of the bridges over the Neva takes place daily from April to the end of October between 1:25 and 2:45 in the morning. This allows the passage of large ships but, with the “white nights” of the Saint Petersburg summer, it is above all an authentic tourist attraction.

The mini-cruise starts at 00:30 and we usually arrange for pick-up from your hotel 1 hour before boat departure. The tour includes the presence of our guide.

Evening boat ride with music

Relaxing on the boat's edge, listening to beautiful music, you will admire the city of St. Petersburg amidst its dusk light and splendor of its bridges. Along the way, you will pass before the following monuments: the Hermitage Museum, the Peter and Paul Fortress, the Summer Garden, the Smolniy Cathedral, Saint Isaac's Cathedral, the Bronze Horseman, the Mosque, the Museum of Kunstkamera, and the Academy of Art. Fortress and Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul

Visit the first building built in the city at the behest of Peter the Great as a bulwark against the Swedes. The fortress was a prison until 1917 and hosted illustrious names such as Dostoevsky, Gorky, and Trozsky. The fortifications - particularly imposing - follow the outline of the island with six bastions and six walls. On the central esplanade stands the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, designed by Domenico Trezzini, inside which are held the tombs of all the Romanovs, even those of the families of the last tsar slaughtered in Ekaterinburg.

Cathedral of Saint Isaac

Located on the square of the same name, it is considered the most monumental and largest cathedral in the city and one of the largest churches in the world. Built at the behest of Tsar Alexander I by the architect Montferand, it was completed in the second half of the 19th century. The cathedral has a Greek-cross plan of Byzantine influence with an interior rich in bronzes, many varieties of marble, and precious stones.

Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood

Also known as the Church of the Resurrection, built by Tsar Alexander III as a dedication to his father, Tsar Alexander II, on the site where he was fatefully wounded on March 1, 1881. Erected as an imitation of Muscovite churches, the church stands out in the panorama of St. Petersburg for the multi-colored cladding of its facades with an interior covered in impressive mosaics. Closed to the public in 1930, it was reopened in 1997.

Hermitage Museum

One of the most famous museums in the world,this museum was created by Tsarina Catherine the Great in 1764 based on her collection of works from throughout Europe. Tsar Nicholas I expanded upon the collection and complex where, today, the museum houses over 3 million works and occupies 6 historic buildings including the Winter Palace. Recently the paintings of the Impressionist

painters were brought to the General Staff Palace within the Hermitage complex which can be visited with a guide for a supplementary payment. It is also possible on request - with compulsory reservation and with a supplement - to visit the Treasure Gallery and Gold Room by guide; housing the most precious collections of jewelry formed from the Russian Imperial family collection dating back to ancient Greek masters (the visit lasts about 1 hour).

The State Russian Museum

Housed in the Mikhailovsky Palace designed by Carlo Rossi, this museum has a splendid collection of over three hundred thousand works of Russian art: from icons to paintings by artists of the Russian twentieth century avant-garde. It was founded in 1895 by Tsar Nicholas II to

house Alexander III's collections.

Saint Alexander Nevsky Monastery

Founded in 1710 by Peter I, inside the walls there are 4 cemeteries - 2 of which are monumental cemeteries - with the tombs of famous Russians such as the scientist Lomonosov, the musicians Ciajkovskij, Stravinskij, Rimskij-Korsakov and the writer Dostoevsky; there are also 7 churches of historical interest including the cathedral of the Trinity - the work of Starov - built at the behest of Catherine II.

Residence Petrodvoretz / Peterhof

(Grand palace and fountain park)

Fountains are in operation only from May to September

Visit to the palace and fountain park in Petrodvoretz, the "Versailles of Peter the Great", once the famed summer residence of the Tzars. Overlooking the Gulf of Finland, the park is famous for its elaborate water features found throughout the park, with unusual waterfalls and fountains (active only from May to October). The Great Baroque waterfall is made up of 225 gilded bronze sculptures and 64 fountains. The residence houses numerous buildings, with varying accessibility depending on the day of the week. The Great Palace houses a splendid throne room, where large official lunches and balls were held.

Pushkin residence and the Palace                 of Catherine II

Also known by the name of Tsarskoe Selo (village of the tsars), it houses a spectacular complex that belonged to Catherine II the Great and is located 27 km south of Saint Petersburg. The 600-hectare park with two artificial lakes is full of pavilions, caves and kiosks. The palace, with its very long facade, is one of the most precious architectural examples of Russian rococo and houses the famous amber room. On request and with supplement, it is possible to visit the Alexander Palace, the last residence of the tsar before his deportation to Siberia.

The Pavlovsk Residence

Belonging to Maria Fedorovna, wife of Tsar Paul I, the neoclassical palace extends into a horseshoe shape on the banks of the Slavjanka river. The collections acquired by the imperial family during their travels in Europe in the late eighteenth century are on display. The Throne Room contains two beautiful tableware sets from the imperial porcelain manufactures of St. Petersburg. Also interesting is the Hall of Knights with bas-reliefs and Roman statues.

Russian Museum of Ethnography

Founded at the beginning of the 1900s by Tsar Nicholas II as a section of the Russian Museum, it houses more than five hundred thousand exhibits in 28 rooms which tell the history and traditions of the 158 populations of Russian Eurasia - from Russians, Ukranians, and Belorussians to the various native tribes of the Caucasus, Central Asia, and Siberia.

Arctic and Antarctic Museum and The Icebreaker “Krasin” Museum

The only museum in the world dedicated to the nature of the Arctic and Antarctic, it illustrates the history of expeditions to the Poles. We will also visit the icebreaker Krasin, docked on Vassiljevskij island, built in 1916.

Yusupov Palace

Built in the 18th century by the architect Quarenghi, belonging to the princes of Yusupov, it went down in history as the site of the plot and assassination of Grigorij Rasputin, the cursed monk. The crime scene was faithfully reconstructed using wax statues. The building also houses a small 150-seat theater.

Menshikov Palace

The Writers of St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg and the October Revolution

Journey into Russian history at the beginning of the 20th century will start with a stop to the Finland Station, where Lenin, having just returned from Switzerland, made his first harangue staying on the roof of an armored car. Then we will visit the Aurora cruiser which began the October Revolution by firing blanks upon the Winter Palace. And finally we will visit the Museum of the Political History, once the headquarters of the Bolsheviks.

Oranienbaum

The royal residence complex is located on the south bank of the Gulf of Finland, opposite the city of Kronshtadt. Built at the behest of Menshikov, in 1743 it became the residence of Peter III; it is famous for the Chinese Palace, a work of Rinaldi, which houses a precious collection of ceramics from the local region. The parks and Roller Coaster and Waterslide Pavilions are also of considerable value.

Kronstadt

This historic naval base was commissioned by Peter the Great to protect St. Petersburg (about 30 km away). Closed to tourist traffic until 1996 for military reasons, today you can see Russian warships and the Naval Cathedral which houses a museum.

Gatchina Palace

This complex built in the second half of the 18th century by the architect Rinaldi is located about 45 km south of the city. It was the residence of Tsar Paul I, the most romantic of the Russian emperors, and is part of a lush complex of parks (about 700 hectares) with lakes, ponds, canals, waterfalls, pavilions and obelisks.

Vyborg

Veliky Novgorod

It is possible to define Vielikij Novogorod as the cradle of Russian republican and democratic traditions. In the Middle Ages, Novgorod was one of the largest art centers in Europe. Its architectural traditions and painting school were famous in ancient times. In the morning we depart from St. Petersburg by car to Vieliki Novgorod (180 km). Visit the city with its Kremlin, the Cathedral of Saint Sofia, the monastery of Saint George and the open-air museum of wooden architecture. Lunch in a restaurant. Return in the evening.
