The Northern Lights hunt in Murmansk involves elements of preparation and probability, but there is also an element of luck. While you can never be 100% sure of spotting the Northern Lights during your stay on the Kola Peninsula, there are some periods and areas that will infinitely increase your chances of seeing the lights.

 

Predicting the appearance of the Northern Lights has always been difficult, but there are some general rules to follow. Being vigilant between 8:00 PM and 2:00 AM from mid-September to mid-April is critical, preferably within the Arctic Circle (latitudes between 64 degrees and 70 degrees north should) to maximize your chances.

1st day

During the tour of the heroic city of Murmansk, you will visit the monument to the defenders of the Arctic during the Great Patriotic War, World War II (Alyosha), the second largest monument in Russia, will visit the memorial complex dedicated to sailors who died in peacetime. The "Lenin" icebreaker is the world's first nuclear powered ship launched in 1959. You can see the original interior, descend into the engine room, learn about the unique characteristics of the icebreaker.

10:30 am - 1:30 pm Program in the Saami village with lunch

Important notes

Visa

→  2020: While some countries have bilateral agreements in place to allow visa-free travel to Russia for their citizens, most foreign nationals are still required to have an Entry Visa.  You will need to complete the application for a visa through a visa center or consulate in your home country and we will provide support in terms of the required standard "tourist voucher" issued by the authorized Russian host travel agency.
